August - BSR Cable Park - Waco, Texas

BSR Cable Park has crazy water slides

They also have a cable park where you can learn to wakeboard without a boat!  This would fulfill some of the requirements of the Water Sports merit badge, for about $45 (estimated).  You could use scout account money for this, and in May we’ll have another chance to raise mulch money at the Hutto Home & Garden show!

Sound like a worthwhile trip?  Even some of our absentee Eagles and soon-to-be Eagles have expressed an interest in this one ;-)

Troop/Crew 12 Brave the Rapids

Scouts of Troop 12 ranked 1st Class and above, and Scouts of Venture Crew 12 floated 50+ miles of the Current River in the Missouri Ozarks. The Scouts demonstrated outstanding leadership, self-reliance, and paddle-craft mastery on the five day journey. They visited springs, caves, and a cabin along the way. They got to enjoy good food and great companionship while playing games and meeting new people. They completed a service project for the Parks Service and removed the trash left by tourists on many miles of sand bars as they floated.

They have already began discussing other high-adventures they'd like to plan; such as a longer float; a class 2 river; white water rafting; or possibly equine-trekking.

Congratulate these young people on a job well done. Photos and videos of our trip can be viewed HERE.

Troop 12 will be leaving to participate in the 2014 Blackland Prairie Camporee/Zombaree on Friday, April 11 at 4:30 from the Hutto Lutheran Church. Scouts and adults who have not yet paid the $20 food/trailer fee should bring it with them Friday afternoon. We will return Sunday afternoon.

Events at the Zombaree include Friday night Cracker Barrel, Make-It-To-The-Lake-Alive!, Fire Building (no lighters or matches,) Knots and Lashings, Skits, and an OA Call Out, and an Interfaith Service among other things.

Our scouts and leadership are sure to have a great time competing, making new friends, and avoiding Zombification (just kidding!)

Two Scoutmasters Honored

Honoring Scoutmasters Dennis Kleppe and Tom Albers at tonight's Court of Honor. Excellent work, gentlemen. I am very proud of all of our boys. Well done.

Troop 12 honored two Scoutmasters at Hutto Bible Church at the December 9, 2013 Court Of Honor. Dennis Kleppe (second from the right) was presented with a craft plaque signed by the adults and scouts of Troop 12 remembering his instrumental years of service to Troop 12 and scouting in Hutto.

Tom Albers (far right) was also honored with an Outback Steakhouse gift card for stepping in for 2013 as our Scoutmaster. Tom has been acting as the troop's Scoutmaster while simultaneously acting as Committee Chair and Advisor for Venture Crew 12. As Tom bids farewell to the role of Scoutmaster, Troop 12 is very excited to be in the capable hands of Dennis Kleppe who is stepping back into the role.

December Court of Honor

The final Court of Honor (COH) in 2013 was held at the Hutto Bible Church, Monday, December 9 from 7:00 - 8:30.

Scoutmasters were honored, Philmont was celebrated and remembered, and boys were awarded over 50 merit badges as well as the ranks they have earned since last COH.

Each time a Scout advances in rank, he should be recognized on two occasions. The first should occur as soon as possible after he has been approved by the board of review and an Advancement Report has been filed with the council office - preferably at the next unit meeting. This ceremony should be dignified but simple, involving not much more than presenting the Scout with his new badge of rank.

The second occasion is a COH, a public ceremony to recognize Scouts for successful achievement and to describe the importance of the program. The main purposes of the court of honor are to furnish formal recognition for achievement and to provide incentive for other Scouts to advance.

Winter Camp is a great time to be at Lost Pines Boy Scout Camp. The staff is focused on providing the best possible program, including many merit badges that are not normally offered at summer camp.

If you have not already registered and paid, please contact Tracy Goldstein at XXX-XXXX.
